Car Dealer Scam
“I seem to be a victim of a car dealer scam. I signed papers and left a deposit for a new car. The car dealership told me they would deliver the car to me in a few days. The problem is that it has been a week now and I still don’t have the car. Now they are telling me that they can’t find the kind of car that I bought from them and are offering me cars I don’t want…and of course those cars are a lot more expensive than the car I left a deposit for. Can I get my deposit back? Should I go to a different car dealer? If not, what else can they do for me?”

Can you get your deposit back for a car you bought? Yes by all means get your deposit back immediately! If they give you any B.S. whatsoever, even a hint of B.S., then you need to tell them that if they do not give you your money back IN FULL immediately that you will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, the State Attorney General, and EVERY consumer rights agency you can find. And make sure you mean it when you tell them this! If you paid with a check then put a stop payment on it immediately. If you used a credit card, then tell them you will dispute the charge if they don’t refund your money in full immediately.
Should you continue to do business with them when this is clearly a car dealer scam? No, absolutely not! Geez, why would you even think of giving them your business when they are trying to screw you? Don’t reward people that are F-ing you over and that includes car dealers too!
I would ask them why they are not getting it straight from the factory. That is often how they get custom cars to people. Normally takes about 4 weeks to get a custom car from the factory. I would talk to them and find out what the story is. Not sure why they are looking AROUND for the car. It sounds like you did a special/custom order for the car. I would talk to the SALES MANAGER about this issue. Take your paper work in. if he is still no help then take it to the owner of the dealership. If he still doesn't do anything then I would get an attorney to help you solve the problem. Let the people at the dealership know that you ordered a car that you wanted. If they are going to offer you a different car that is more expensive they have to sell you that car for the price that you agreed upon with the one you ordered. There should be no reason why they should give you this kind of run around. If talking to the sales manager doesn't work I'm sure talking to the owner of the dealership will. They often don't like bad raps when their money is on the line. I got a 17 year sales manager fired because he never delivered. I told him I would talk to the owner of the dealer ship if he would not resolve the issue. He proceeded to say I'm best friends with him He won't do anything to me. When I contacted the owner and explained the situation to him he called me and the sales manager in to his office. The sales manager had a smug look on his face until the owner handed him his pay check right there and said, I will no longer be needing your services at my dealership. I have given you your final paycheck. Have a nice day. After that event I had the custom ordered car I requested in less then 72 hours with a 7000 dollar discount and 2 years free service on any car I owned. Now I'm not saying that you will get this kind of result. But the owners have the ultimate power when it comes to resolving customer complaints. Hope this helps. Sorry to ramble.
